BPNB West Java, with its working area includes the province of West Java, Special Capital Region of Jakarta, Banten, and Lampung, is emphasizing the study of acculturation, which is the process of mixing two or more cultures that meet each other and influence each other (the Great Dictionary of Languages Indonesia, 1990:18). This means that the historical and traditional values that were observed and or analyzed are ultimately attributed to the process of acculturation.
BPNB West Java was established on August 4, 1989 with the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 0486/O/1989 with the name of the Hall of historical Studies and traditional value (BKSNT). BKSNT transformed into a historical preservation and traditional value Hall (BPSNT) based the Regulation of the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia on 7 September 2006 Number PM. 38/OY. 001/MKP-2006. BPSNT then transformed into the Cultural value Preservation Hall (BPNB) Bandung based on the Regulation of Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic Indonesia Number 53 year 2012. In the year 2015, based on the Regulation of Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic Indonesia No. 40 year 2015 TG 9 October 2015, BPNB Bandung changed its name to BPNB West Java.
Based on the Regulation of Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic Indonesia No. 40 year 2015 dated October 9, 2015 about the organization and administration of BPNB in Chapter I article 2, BPNB West Java has the task of implementing the preservation of aspects of traditions, beliefs, arts, film, and History in its working area.
